On June 11, 2025, more than 400 music education leaders and advocates convened in Washington, DC, to share the importance of music education with their federal legislators.

President Tom Finigan (Colleton County), Past- President Colleen Marcou (Irmo), President Elect Erik Hines (Sumter) along with collegiate NAFME members from the University of South Carolina, Patrick Reindl and Johnnie Cato represented the South Carolina Music Educators Association and were among the many voices from across the country advocating for music education during the annual National Association for Music Education (NAFME) Hill Day.

Running backs from the Colleton County Football Program recently had the opportunity to participate in a workout at Cougar Stadium facilitated by former Stratford High School, Penn State, and NFL running back Rodney Kinlaw.

The 2024-2025 Summer Learning Safari came to a close at the end of June. The students enjoyed a fun learning experience filled with activities and lessons to capture their imagination. Job well done for all who attended and the teachers who taught during the Summer Safari.

Colleton County HS Athletics would like to congratulate 2025 graduate, Lanasia Sanders on being selected to play in the 2025 All Lowcountry Softball Team. She, along with her teammates, were honored at the Charleston RiverDogs game on June 27, 2025, in a pre-game ceremony.

To assist 4K and 5K students in their transition to school, the 4K and 5K students will have a staggered start schedule for the 2025-2026 school year based on their last name. This staggered schedule will occur for the five days as outlined in the image below.

Join us for a day of family fun and celebration! All for Colleton will feature hands-on STEM activities, giveaways, back-to-school supplies and a hotdog lunch while supplies last. Children need to be present to receive supplies.

Summer learning at CCMS was a tremendous success! Our programs provided engaging enrichment opportunities that extended learning for many of our students, while also ensuring academic readiness for the upcoming school year. Whether students were enrolled in summer school classes to receive extra academic support or participating in our Summer GAP enrichment program, all of our students greatly benefited from the opportunities provided. Throughout the month of June, students and staff worked diligently to make the most of each day. From exciting field trips and inspiring guest speakers to dynamic and meaningful lessons, our program offered valuable and memorable experiences. At CCMS, learning doesn’t stop when the traditional school year ends—it continues with purpose and passion. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible staff for dedicating their time and energy to creating authentic learning experiences for our students. Your commitment truly made a difference. A big thank you to Superintendent Williams for your continued support of our program. Your encouragement helps make experiences like these possible for our students. CCMS is on the move!

Colleton County High School Athletics hosted their annual football summer camp for ages 5-13. The Cougar football team assisted coaches with an obstacle course to teach fundamentals to the youth of Colleton County. Thank you to all those who participated.

As summer school at Forest Hills Elementary came to a close this past week, Superintendent Jessica Williams had an opportunity to visit the students. The students were thrilled to share their experience and show the lessons learned during the summer school program.

Colleton County School District was well represented at the South Carolina Association of School Administrators i3 Summer Leadership Conference. Several staff members were recognized for completing Silver, Gold and Platinum levels of CEEL classes through the SC Department of Education. The Principal of Bells Elementary presented a session on building positive school culture. Additionally, Colleton County School District was recognized for the percentage of students meeting standard on the SCReady College and Career Ready Assessment. #CCSD@SCASAi3SummerLeadership
